Welcome Group for helping refugees

Mile End Chavurah is affiliated with a non-profit organization called The Welcome Collective to help asylum seekers get acclimated to Montreal.

“:Welcome Groups” collect basic items needed by the asylum seeking family whom they are helping, including furniture for their new apartments, winter clothes, and kitchen items. Welcome Groups can also provide valuable information to new families about local culture and transportation, and direct them to much needed social services.

As a “Welcome Group”, Mile End Chavurah is helping a family from Lebanon, a wonderful single mom, Fadia, and her three children, ages 6, 4 and 3. They arrived almost 2 months ago and are living in Ville Saint Laurent. We have found furniture for Fadia‚Äôs apartment, winter clothes for her boys, and have even placed her kids in daycare and school.

What Fadia really needs now is companionship and guidance as she navigates her way through the system. Spending an hour with her and her kids, sometimes with a soccer ball, helps to keep her spirits up. What Fadia would truly benefit from the expertise of a professional psychologist or social worker who could perhaps help her and her family through this difficult time.
